You must qualify for unemployment benefits in Massachusetts before you can apply for the Section 30 extension of benefits. To qualify for the full benefit you must be in a full-time program. If you are in a part-time program of 20 or more hours a week, you can still apply but you will receive only a partial benefit. The determination of benefits is up to the analysis of the department.

Section 30 does not cover  benefits for weeks when there are no classes. You will need to provide a schedule for your program at the time of application that shows when there are vacation weeks around the holidays.
