Laser

Lasers in the Aesthetics Profession

Please Note: Lasers cannot be taught in Massachusetts Esthetics or Cosmetology programs.

Lasers are evolving quickly and laser treatments are in high demand. That being said, the laser is expensive, the licensing is currently in an under defined state and the liability and expense is extremely high. In the current environment, many states, including Massachusetts, has specifically forbidden esthetics schools from offering training on lasers and laser hair removal. Schools may provide a demonstration of lasers and laser hair removal, but actual training in lasers and laser hair removal is not approved.

Laser hair removal and other laser techniques can be practiced by anyone who has been trained in the technique. Some states require the practitioner be a nurse or doctor while others have no restrictions. For this reason, in many states, anyone who can afford to buy the equipment and pay the liability insurance (which is very high) can do laser hair removal and other procedures.

There are several reasons why people who are interested in doing lasers are also interested in becoming estheticians.

  1. The laser training only offers minimal education on skin health other than as it applies to the use of lasers
  2. Since the laser introduces a level of distress to the skin, it is important to know how to improve the skin health
  3. It creates additional business opportunities for laser technicians if they also offer skin health and make-up skills
  4. Additional product sales for aesthetics is an important supplement to a laser business
  5. Since the laser technology changes very quickly, there is a constant need to buy new and better equipment
  6. Since anyone who can afford the equipment and training can offer laser treatments (in many states) the competition to attract and retain a clientele becomes very expensive if the only service that is offered is laser treatment
  7. Having an esthetics license increases the laser entrepreneurs credibility
  8. Since lasers have a high liability due to the invasiveness of the procedures, many state boards are considering regulations that may eliminate the ability to offer laser treatment except for doctors and nurses
  9. Having an esthetics practice increases your job security and earnings potential

Future regulations for laser hair removal and other laser procedures are under intense review. It is up to anyone who uses lasers to know the status of the laws in their state. It's important to know that the laws about lasers could change at any time.

Licensing

Massachusetts Aesthetics License

Basically, once you graduate and take the exam, you get a type 7 license. A type 7 must practice under a type 6 licensed Aesthetician for two years before they can apply for a type 6 license. A type 6 license is required before you can have your own business.

The applicant must file an application with the Board accompanied by required fees and pass a practical examination satisfactory to the Board. The license must be renewed on the date determined by the Board. An aesthetics instructor - Type 8 may only be employed to instruct in an aesthetics school.

Massachussetts Esthetics Schools

Massachusetts Esthetics Education

Although most states require 600 hours of training for an aesthetics license, the state of Massachusetts requires only 300 hours of training for an esthetician license. The reality is that there is far more demand for aestheticians with 600 hours of training than for those with only 300 hours.

Our spa oriented Esthetician Program for Massachusetts gives you the skills you need for this competitive field and prepares you for exams in other states. We highly recommend the 600 hour program for anyone who wants to work in a high end spa or salon or if you plan on moving or working in other states in addition to Massachusetts.

The 600 hour Aesthetics Program is packed with a great selection of high-end services that are usually only offered in programs of 900 hours or more. We feel your time is valuable and we want to make sure that you have the most complete set of skills possible.

The 300 hour programs can be completed in 3 or 6 months and the 600 hour program can be completed in 6 or 12 months. Starting in the September of 2007 we are also offering a part-time/mothers hour program that is 9 months long.

For more information on the programs please call the location that is closest to you or use the information request button below.

Dear Spa Tech,

When I went for an interview last week for a job position as an Aesthetician, one of the first questions that was asked was, "Do you have any experience with advanced treatment?" I had to tell them no because I only took the first 300 hours of the program. I do have a Cosmetology license but they continued to say this is great but what we are really looking for is someone who has experience with advanced treatments.

Your admissions person was very clear that employers would be looking for the advanced skills but I was unable to do the entire program. I do intend to take as much of the advanced work as possible in the future to improve my job opportunities.

Thank you for a great training. The teachers and staff were amazing.

Sincerely,
Natasha

Natasha's experience is consistent with what salons, clinics and spas have been telling us for years. This is why we encourage everyone to take the full 600 hour program if they are serious about doing the work professionally. Even if you are a cosmetologist already, the body wraps, herbal wraps, aromatherapy and many other advanced techniques are what make your training the most valuable.

Additionally, most of the surrounding states and other areas of the country require 600 hours of training for a license so if you move, it will be very important that you have taken the full 600 hour program.

If you have any questions, please call us at 800-262-8530 and we will be happy to help you.

Aesthetics Schools or Esthetics Schools Maine and Massachusetts

Aesthetics or Esthetics

Facial

No matter how you spell it, it is in high demand and our Spa Oriented Aesthetician Programs are redefining the industry.

Skin care and esthetics is an essential skill for all successful spa and salon professionals as well as a wonderful addition for massage and polarity therapists to add to their practices. The baby boomers are aging and seeking these services in spas, clinics and salons to look and feel their best.

As a spa professional, massage therapist or cosmetologist, offering esthetic services increases your customer's satisfaction and dramatically increases your income through product sales.  It also reduces the workload on your body, which increases your productivity.

Features

Our  programs are a unique approach based on years of experience as massage and polarity therapists. Unlike programs that focus mainly on the appearance of the skin, the training focuses on the client experience as well as making the skin healthy through natural products and carefully applied techniques. It utilizes the spiritual concept of Human Haptics or conscious touch along with learning to evaluate and customize your treatments for everyone you work with.

The feedback from clients on this approach has been outstanding. Their experience is more than a facial or skin treatment, it is a deeply transformative, relaxing and nurturing experience. Your clients will love what you can do for them and build your practice through referrals.

Based on years of research and input from major spas and salons, the aesthetics program prepares you for the professional exams needed for licensure and gives you the skills and knowledge that are in demand in spas and clinics. Additionally, the program focuses on the most natural and healthy products available on the market today.

The programs are packed with information that is missing from many other programs and are designed to have you working as a professional esthetician in the shortest reasonable time.

So whether you spell it esthetics or aesthetics, we look forward to teaching you this exciting new information.
