Five Great Reasons to go to Career Schools

  1. Value - The investment in tuition for a career school education is a fraction of what it costs to go to college. Plus, when you graduate you will have a marketable skill that can put you to work immediately.

Unfortunately some people spend upwards of $100,000 on tuition on four years of college and still have to go on to additional training before they can start their career. They may even spend additional money on graduate school and work for several years in a cubicle before they go to massage, esthetics or cosmetology school to learn a career that they love.

  2. Time - You can finish your training in 3 to 18 months depending on the program and schedule you choose. This translates into both additional savings and career building opportunities. The math on this is astounding. If you are currently making $10/hour, the difference just in lost wages is over $73,000. 4 years of college compared to a 6 month program looks like this:

    College: 4 years =208 weeks X $400/week = $83,200 in lost wages

Career School:       26 weeks X $400/week= $10,400 in lost wages
Total you save by going to career school         $72,800

This does not include the additional income you are losing by delaying increasing your rate of pay by completing your career education and earning more per hour during the remaining three and a half years of college. Keep in mind that upon completion of your 3-18 month career program you are able to enter into a higher paying field. This equals a substantial amount of money lost during the extra 3 years it would take to complete a college program. This is what we will call your Additional Earnings Potential in the graph below. As you can see that is a lot of money that you could be putting towards your future goals.

When you add it all up it is amazing.

    Savings on tuition $87,000
    Savings on lost income $72,800
    Total Savings $159,800

  3. Fun - When you are doing work you love, you are living your genius. Everyone does better when they are doing something they like. That is why many people come back to Spa Tech  after finishing college and spending several years working in a cubicle, which is what most college educations prepare you to do. If you aren't excited about what you do for a living, you will not be as happy or healthy in all aspects of your life.

  4. Community - It is a great feeling to be surrounded by people who share your values and enthusiasm about what they are doing. Often students become life long friends as they work together. Some students even will open businesses together as they grow their careers.

  5. Control - As a massage or polarity therapist, esthetics or skin care spa professional or cosmetologist, you have control of your future. You are in control of your career, your schedule and your income. Many people go on to have their own business and set their schedule around child care or other interests. And it is wonderful to know that what you do can never be outsourced. You have total control over what you do.

College can be important if you know what you want to do and you need college to do it: engineering, doctor, lawyer, etc.

However, if you aren't sure you need college now, it may be better to get a career first and then go to  college when you need it to move your career forward. For instance, some people will start their own business and it will grow to a point where they feel they need to learn more about business or marketing. This can often be done while continuing your career with online training or part-time classes.
