The information on these links is not always up to date so be sure to check with the licensing board in your state to confirm the current requirements.

Maine Licensing

Maine has a state license exam for Cosmetology, Aesthetics and Nail Tech. The massage license requires graduation from an approved school but no exam. Polarity therapy has no state license but some towns may have requirements that you will need to comply with. Additionally, if you are self employed there may also be additional requirements that you register your business with either the state or town. Polarity therapy is not licensed in Maine or Massachusetts. The requirements for practicing polarity therapy will vary based on state and location. The Certification Exam offered by the American Polarity Therapy Association is available and may be recognized by some states and towns as a credential. You can find out more at http://polaritytherapy.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=109&Itemid=72

Massage Certification Exams

Massachusetts and Maine do not require a certification exam. However, other states may require a certification exam as prerequisite to licensing. The two current exams for massage are the MBLEx and the NCBTMB

Insurance

Whether you need insurance to practice is regulated by the state. That being said, it's always a good idea to have appropriate coverage. The cost can vary from around $100 for some massage insurance up to several hundred dollars depending on the coverage you choose. A search of the web will turn up many options and information will be provided as part of your training as well.

Cost of License, Insurance and Exams

The cost of getting licensed varies depending on the state/town. The links above are provided so you can check on the current expense of licensing for each state and profession.

The cost of exams for licensing or certification is also subject to change. The information on the expense of licensing exams is located at the state boards that regulate the profession and certification exams depend on the organization that you choose for the exam.
