Clinic Scheduling

In preparation for working in a spa, salon or clinic, the art of getting a good clinic schedule starts with what you do in school. Although the cosmetology salon is done on a walk-in basis only, getting to work with clients in all settings requires some thought and action on your part to get the prime opportunities.
First, once you are scheduled, be on time, every time, to ensure that you will continue to get the best times. If you miss one of your scheduled times, you will have a difficult time finding good times to make it up and it can delay your graduation. This is also what will happen in real life. If you do not show up for a time when you are scheduled, you will either be fired or at least moved to times that are less critical and not as lucrative.
To succeed you want to be in the best time slots. So be prepared and fully ready to hit the ground running.
It is important that you get your hours and individual clinic practice time done as soon as possible. The students who are ready first will have the best selection of clinic times to choose. So be sure to get those practices done as quickly as possible.
If for any reason you have a conflict and will not make a scheduled time, notify the teacher as quickly as possible. It’s all about communications. If you just don’t show up or call at the last minute, there is very little time to correct the situation. This leads to stress for teachers and other students who have to cope with the situation you have created. When this happens, you will find it erodes support for you and you will find it increasingly difficult to succeed. This is also exactly what happens in real professional life. You must communicate as quickly and clearly as possible to avoid creating stressful situations.
Volunteer to be available on short notice if someone else does not show up. (Of course you can only do this if you are truly available to help.) If you life close by or you know you are going to be at the school doing additional studying, be sure you bring your supplies so you can jump in if the opportunity opens up. You will gain an amazing level of respect and support from everyone who sees how you were prepared and “saved the day.” In spa’s, salons and clinics there is a special term for people who do this: Super Star Employee. When opportunities for promotion or prime schedules comes up, managers remember and reward the super stars.
If you follow these tips you will find that you will be extremely successful in completing your clinics and in your professional life.
