Graduate Spotlight July 2016 Ellen O’Donnell
Albert Quintero • March 18, 2017
Love Your Face, a holistic skin care business in Amesbury, MA, is owned by Ellen O’Donnell. Ellen is a 2012 graduate of Spa Tech Institute’s 600 hour Aesthetic program. Years ago Ellen majored in graphic design because she had a passion for art and color. She also had a passion for working with her hands. She has had many creative businesses such as cake decorating and quilt making. She has also taught many classes like jewelry construction and stained glass.
Ellen also had an interest in skincare which led her to enroll in the Aesthetic program at Spa Tech Institute. Her passion for color led her to become a certified makeup artist. Her other talents include being a Usui Reiki master and teacher and a certified crystal healer which allows her to work with her hands.
When Ellen graduated from Spa Tech Institute, she worked in a spa but always dreamt of having her own skin care business. She then went out on her own and Love Your Face was opened. Ellen believes in traditional Chinese medicine which influenced which products she carries and how her space is decorated. She carries a line of plant-based skin care called Phyto 5 and carries her own line of vegetable oil-based soaps, which she has hand made for more than 20 years (Ellen’s Handmade Soaps). She also started Herbal Planet, a holistic skin line which has products like face cream and lip balm.
Ellen enjoyed her time at Spa Tech Institute and remembers all the great teachers she had and the ‘great detail’ they provided in their teaching. She added ‘they gave excellent prep for the state boards’. Aromatherapy was her favorite part of the aesthetics program while at school.
Ellen continues to learn and takes as many webinars as possible. She is currently learning pressure points and recently learned to use the tuning forks to add to her clients Reiki sessions.
She divides her time between Reiki and giving facials. Many of her clients love her holistic energetic facials where she adds Reiki for the feeling of peace and wellbeing.
When asked what advice she would give new students she is quick to say “don’t give up, keep moving on if you want to find the perfect place to work”. She likes her independence that her business gives her and markets herself with pamphlets she has designed herself.
Ellen is taking new Reiki and aesthetic clients. You can reach her at 978-457-1431 or visit her website at http://www.healinghands-ellen.com/.
