Graduate Spotlight May 2019 Zowi Woodman
My overall experience at Spa Tech Institute was great! I am a huge believer that the work you put in will pay off in the end! My favorite classes were the color classes and styling! I loved when the teacher would give us the freedom to try something new on our mannequin, it really helped me feel comfortable trying a new technique out on a client! My favorite part about school was being on the clinic floor, I wouldn’t be able to do what I do now without all of the practice I got!
Zowi knew from a very young age that being a part of the beauty industry was what she was meant to do. During high school she encountered many questions about whether she would be attending “real school” or taking “real classes(college)”. With a supportive family at her side,Zowi graduated high school and began the Cosmetology program Spa Tech Institute in Westbrook, MEin September of 2017.
Cosmetology Educator Sherry Libby shares that “from day one, Zowi had goals in place to be successful. She knew exactly where she wanted to go when she graduated. She marketed herself and pushed herself to learn as much a possible as a student.”
After graduation, Zowi made the decision to accept an opportunity with Goldie’s Arrow in Wells, Maine and at 19 years of age had the confidence level with her skills to be self-employed and booth rent. Zowi’s best advice for prospective and new students would be to never get discouraged and to always push yourself. Remember – you are students and still learning and it is ok to make mistakes!
